John Harlan Moore, Regent

Following in the footsteps of the Society, the Lancaster Chapter also sponsors Naturalization Day ceremonies. The first one in April was held in the Lancaster County Court House and was chaired by Stephen P. Hoyt. 130 new American citizens were greeted and presented with these gifts from the Society Chapter:

On September 29th the Chapter sponsored another Naturalization Day ceremony for approximately one hundred new citizens. Chapter member Douglas Wadsworth Gibson took charge of this activity and encouraged all local members to attend this very important event.

Final Chapter Meeting for 2000

On November 13th, Dr. Richard Keller, Professor Emeritus of American History from Millersville University, will discuss American Political History. The Chapter is very fortunate to hold its meeting at the Stauffer Mansion, an excellent meeting place that grandly provides a wonderful setting for our organization and accommodates our members equally well. This facility has been used on a regular basis for all Chapter gatherings and affords the right ambiance for light refreshments which are always served after the presentation.

Let Freedom Ring Celebration

July 4th is always special to all Sons of the Revolution members and the Lancaster Chapter was pleased to have twenty-two of its members and their wives in attendance for the luncheon and ceremony presentations. Regent John H. Moore was selected to be a guide for belltapper Hope Staller. He was delighted to escort the perky blond five-year old to the Liberty Bell Pavilion. Chapter members traveled to Philadelphia by charter bus courtesy of the PA Society.

A "Capital Day" ~ For Lancaster County and for Jack Loose

On Capital Day, September 28th, Jack Loose presented a most interesting program entitled Politics in Lancaster During the Revolution. Mr. Loose is one of the Chapter’s more illustrious and credentialed members and now has the distinction of being named Lancaster County Historian of the 20th Century. He is a distinguished speaker and has been invited by more than 30 different organizations to give presentations.

Agenda for 2001

The Chapter’s Annual Meeting will once again be held at the Lancaster Country Club on May 6, 2001. Our speaker will be the Society's President, Curtis Paul Cheyney, and we expect a very large turnout. Mr. Mark Frazier Lloyd, President Emeritus, and Harland Wetmore Johnson, our Chapter's Liaison, have been invited along with their wives to enjoy a noontime luncheon and celebrate the passing of the old and the induction of the new Chapter's officers. The Chapter extends a warm invitation to all of the Lancaster members as well as all other PA Society Members to attend this special event in Lancaster on May 6th.

Chapter Annual Meeting Celebrates 75th Anniversary

On May 7th sixty members and their wives attended the Chapter's Annual Meeting and enjoyed a splendid luncheon at the Lancaster Country Club. The guest speaker was President Mark Frazier Lloyd who presented a very interesting program. Regent Moore stated that "the year 2000 marks the 75th anniversary that the Lancaster County Charter was issued." During the meeting the Charter was displayed for all to see. To preserve it for posterity, the Chapter has since had the Charter reframed.

The Chapter also displayed a beautifully rendered wooden carving of the Society logo. This new emblem will be proudly displayed at all future Chapter meetings.

Special Thanks to the Pennsylvania Society

While our Chapter has a very healthy membership, as well as a goodly number of prospective members on the application list, we would be remiss if we neglected to thank the PA Society for their financial support because it has kept us very much alive and prosperous. All of the members of the Lancaster Chapter join me in a big thank you to the parent organization. Our special thanks for all their help and support during the past year goes to Mark Frazier Lloyd and Harland Wetmore Johnson, Chapter Liaison.

Regent John H. Moore believes in the adage: "It is better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret." Under his leadership, those in the Lancaster Chapter do just that. By holding frequent Executive Committee meetings everyone is aware of the importance of progress. More importantly, they understand the need to have good programs along with enthusiastic officers and members, surely a pathway for continued success.
