Description: a) Semi-circumferentor with detachable rotable sighting bar (upward-turning u-shaped piece of mahogany; sides are hinged to lie flat) fastened to main wooden board with central screw to enable u-shaped arm to pivot; just below arm, main board pierced with trough compass under glass showing N(orth) to right and S(outh) to left, with compass point able to swivel between, half circle of pewter mounted on main board below compass with two sections marked in 0 - 90 degrees for a total of 180 degrees, the whole assemblage held up at a working angle by a metal cylindrical support mounted at center top. b) Simple pine box with overhanging top and molded base, painted black on outside. Also inside the box, a draftsman's wood triangle and curve marked in ink "A. P. H.," a magnifying glass to read the degree scale, and an 1814 unbound booklet entitled Parley The Porter inscribed by John B. Hutchins.
