Object Name

1. Hierarchical: Personal Artifacts

2. Classification: Personal Gear

3. Object Term: Sash

Description: Wine colored silk thread, knitted in two tubular sections and joined horizontally at the center the length of the sash. Knitted into the sash at regular intervals are a series of five patterns about 3-5" long and each section separated by a 1/2" section of small circular mesh. The pattern starting at the fringe are diamonds, clubs, triangles, a zig-zag line with circles inside, and a row of ladies. Each end of the sash is finished with a twelve-inch ornate hand-knotted fringe on each end. Now displayed in a conservation quality wall-mounted vitrine.

The traditional history of ownership is that the sash belonged to Anthony Wayne.

Ned Richardson (undated but probably early 1979) letter to Angela Zumgold of the United States Mint states that "Mr. Anthony Wayne Ridgway sold the above items [including the sash] to the Society last week."

(Waynesborough Curator Sandra Ormerod believed the piece was purchased from William Wayne, III (the last direct family descendant to own and live at Waynesborough) who sold the property to Orrin Wickersham June in June 1965. June lived in the house until selling the property to Easttown Township in 1980.)
