Description: a) Rectangular piece of wood with handwritten paper label on one face. Label reads "A piece of the coffin in which Genl. Geo. Washington was buried, taken from the old vault by Wm Ingle, May 7, 1842." b) Accompanied by a handwritten paper tag with red grommet marked "Dennison Mfg. Co., U.S.A." which reads "Fragment of first coffin in which Gen. Geo. Washington was interred. Given to Color Guard by the sister of the late A. W. Russell, first Captain of the Color Guard S. of Rev.". c) Stored in a small cardboard jewelry box labelled "J.E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, Repairing Department."
