Description: Leather bound bible, the spine with four raised ridges covering the binding threads and a partial handwritten paper label reading "Germantown / Chris (topher) Saur / (177) 0, the front and back boards are leather covered wood and originally had two fasteners, now broken off. The volume printed in German features an image of Martin Luther facing the title page. A newspaper clipping (n.d.) tucked in the volume identifies Christopher Saur as the printer of the first American edition of the Scriptures in the German language (also the first in any European tongue) in 1743.
