Description: Vertical oval gold locket, at upper rim a pivoting gold loop for hanging, the face centering a small, inset oval image of George Washington's face (appears to be a trimmed engraving) covered with a convex crystal and raised, engraved gold rim, the image above an extensive engraved text. The reverse contains reddish-brown human hair against dark brown or black leather, covered with a convex crystal held in place by another engraved rim. The engraving: "Hair taken from the head of George Washington at his / retombing (sic) at Mount Vernon Virginia October 7th 1837 / Presented by one of the sons of John Struthers to / Mark Richards Muckle and descended to / Mark Richards Muckle, Jr. and given / by him to his nephew Craig Wright Muckle / November 1st 1915"

Accompanying unmarked oval box with convex lid hinged along its long side, the surface originally dark blue napped fabric now worn down to its black unnapped base fabric, the interior or worn and shredding yellow velvet and satin.
